Safety Excellence
What is ‘Safety excellence’? Is it same as ‘Excellent Safety performance’? Do the Industries achieving ‘zero incident’ every year possess safety excellence?
Achievement of ‘Zero Incident’ may be said to be an Excellent performance for the year in consideration. There is no guarantee that the performance will repeat next year unless the process developed for ‘zero incident’ is excellent. Industries target ‘Zero Incident’ every year however the achievement is limited to ‘zero reportable incidents’ or ‘zero loss time injuries’ etc. Some times luck favours. Hence the performance is not a true identity of Safety Excellence.
Safety Excellence is an excellence of the process that is designed to achieve the results. The commitment is at the top of everything without that inputs for safety excellence are incomplete. Then comes true understanding on safety excellence that helps industries choose a right track to lead zero Incident program. Strong leadership and safety culture is a driving force for establishing the safety excellence.
A safety excellence model includes many risk-based as well as cultural based safety elements. Establishment of these safety elements in an organisation is a choice of the management. These elements can be set one by one systematically either internally or by outsourcing expertise. The target of ‘Zero Incident’ may be sub-divided into small objectives in the form of leading indicators and achieved by developing respective processes. The safety elements may be grouped on the basis of certain criteria and handed over to different teams of employees capable of providing leadership. The teams assigned with different safety aspects develop simple SOPs, set respective targets and define a process of performance review. Mayra Safety conducts site assessment to mark the current establishment, develop a program and work jointly with client to take the organisation to the next level in the journey to the safety excellence.
