Developing HAZOP Team

Developing HAZOP Team

Hazard Operability study is mandatory for projects and running plants. The industrial organisations having less number of new projects prefer to outsource HAZOP study rather than maintaining its own HAZOP team. However Management of Change (MOC) is more frequent in almost all the companies and hence industries should maintain their own HAZOP team. The team shall be trained by experts periodically to cater to the current development in the subject  and increase expertise in conducting HAZOP study.

Every site shall maintain two to three teams (depending upon a strength of the site with respect to  employees and operation) for conducting HAZOP study. The team should consist of at least one engineer (or non-engineers with more than ten years of experience) from each discipline of engineering (chemical, Electrical, mechanical, instrumentation or any other discipline as required specifically) and concerned process supervisors and workmen (one or two).  The team should be led by a HAZOP team leader and assisted by an expert typewriter/computer user capable of noting down the discussions simultaneously.  We prefer that leader does not do the typing job to avoid distraction of mind however he should ensure that writing mistakes are eliminated.
